Abstract
Whereas the integration of road infrastructure planning with land-use has been extensively studied, research on the integration of transport planning with justice and related equity and ethics dimensions is gaining prominence more recently (...). I explore what the implications of the justice concept are for area-based approaches and how these notions of justice can be taken into account in Dutch transport planning practice. The results indicate that the inclusion of (...) justice generally requires a shift in road infrastructure planning’s efficiency, environmental and equity goals, from stressing especially efficiency towards a higher emphasis on equity. Alternatively, notions of transport justice can be build upon in area-based approaches to come to a more balanced infrastructure development of its efficiency, environment and equity dimensions.
