Abstract

Being physically active has positive effects on the human’s health status. Green spaces could stimulate people to be physically active. This research explores the relation between the physical activity of people in Groningen and the provision of green spaces by the municipality of Groningen. This research points out that the provision of green spaces by the municipality does not completely meet the needs and wishes of the citizens of Groningen regarding green spaces for physical activity. At the short term interventions could be done to improve the accessibility with the use of smart routes and the subjective availability by creating awareness. On the long term the policy could be reconsidered for the different planning levels. To improve the influence of green spaces on the physical activity.
