Abstract
This study examined how Zanzibar is represented as a tourism product by different actors. Although diffrences were found, in general Zanzibar was mainly presented as an exotic beach destination, where tourists can enjoy nice sunsets and blue seas, while staying in luxurious hotels. The distinctive cultural traits such as local people, buildings and streetviews were shown far less. The second part of the study examined the cultural impact of tourism on Zanzibar. The author argues that, also compared to other island destinations, the influence of tourism on local culture and people seems moderate.
