Abstract
Local embeddedness of projects, achieved through local ownership and representation provided by local energy communities can increase levels of SLOs. Main impacts caused by solar farms consists of impacts on landscape, nature and previous use(s) of the location. These impacts should be considered adequately to gain acceptance and avoid withdrawal of SLOs. Zonnepark Ameland also presents that context is an important factor that can influence SLOs, for instance because of a high contestedness of space. To gain acceptance and higher levels of SLOs, public participation should not be limited to some parts or phases of projects, rather participation should be provided throughout the whole project including the location choice. Additionally, community engagement strategies should include all relevant stakeholders within the, mostly local, communities. Important is that within these strategies marginalized groups also taken into account in order to improve and increase the levels of SLOs obtained.
