Abstract
This study will assess the value and importance of different functions, rural characteristics and the frequency of visitation in the peri-urban area by city residents. In a quantitative research in which questionnaires were gathered in a relatively large city in the Netherlands namely Apeldoorn, the respondents were asked about preferred rural characteristics; the preferred functions and the frequency & purpose of visitation of the peri-urban area. There is also made a distinction between the residents in age; gender and amount of years living in the city already. The results show that residents think it is important to keep rural characteristics in the peri-urban area, independent of age, gender and years of living in the city. Different purposes with frequencies in visiting the peri-urban area were found but the results of a correlation analysis showed that there is no correlation between the groups and frequencies of visits.
