Abstract

Social integration of the Islam in the Netherlands is a relevant topic in society. Where the social impact of immigrants is extensively discussed in the existing literature, there is hardly any literature on economic integration of Muslims in society. Mosques are the visible and physical representation of the Islam and therefore, a benchmark of Islamic religion in a community. In this paper, the aim is to examine whether mosque construction affects communities. No significant evidence is found that transaction prices in the proximity of a mosques are positively or negatively affected by its presence. This study expands the existing literature by examining the relation between transaction prices and mosques at different moments in time. Altogether, the research is of aid to policymakers to assist them in decision processes to protect social structures within communities and prevent losses in terms of transaction prices.
