Abstract
The practice of local road maintenance prioritization in West Lombok Regency (WLR) is far from good. Lessons will be taken from the City of Hamilton-Canada and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality-South Africa (EMM). It was found that WLR uses a simple subjective ranking method, Hamilton city combines ranking considering parameters with scoring and/or weighting method and subjective ranking method, and EMM uses ranking considering parameters with scoring and/or weighting method. Furthermore, those countries consider multi criteria, and involve authorities, technical agency of local government, politician, and communities. In generating the road improvements, WLR can implement a prioritization method stated in Indonesian Local Roads Maintenance Guideline, encourage the active involvement of road observers, consider environmental criteria, economical criteria, and risk analyses, schedule the mandatory meeting with other agencies regularly, conduct the level of service evaluation, involve road users, increase the knowledge of road maintenance prioritization in local council, and educate the communities.
