Abstract
Accompanied by the Energiewende, the German energy landscape experienced a distinct shift in the social sphere. For enhancing social acceptance in the offshore wind energy sector, the Offshore Wind Energy Foundation initiated the exhibition ‘Fascination Offshore’ as an information-providing tool. This study examines the potential of ‘Fascination Offshore’ for supporting social acceptance of offshore wind energy in Germany. First, the exhibition concept is analyzed and a desk research is conducted. Then, by performing empirical research, data is gathered on the public perception of the exhibition. On this basis, a framework is created for addressing the research objective. It is concluded that an optimal communication of the provided information to the public does not yet take place in the exhibition ‘Fascination Offshore’. In order to overcome detected obstacles, recommendations are formulated for the Foundation to approach the identified weaknesses.
