Abstract
The world is currently experiencing its next energy transition towards sustainable methods of energy production and a circular economy. By removing non-renewable energy sources from the energy system and replacing those with renewables such as wind and solar, the Netherlands hopes to do its part in limiting climate change. Because of the broad applicability of these two forms of renewable energy across different scales and structures, implementation is relatively fast and gaining in popularity. In opposition however is the increasing resistance against the largest solar park projects which are becoming more noticeable in the landscape. This thesis focuses on what municipalities can or should do in mitigating these effects as well as how to allow local inhabitants benefit more fairly from the energy transition currently taking place.
