Abstract
During this study, the synergy between municipal food policies and visions and grassroots urban food initiatives is examined. In order to gather the right information, a new method called 'walking talks' is used for gathering qualitative data. Although the outcomes of this study can not be generalized, they point towards the existing of a gap in motives and goals policy makers and the grass rooters have. The urban food initiatives are mainly set-up to increase environmental safety and social cohesion within a neighborhood, while the municipal urban food policies are set up for sustainability. This suggests a lack of communication and cooperation between municipalities and the grass rooters, coming from a sectoral and top-down approach.
