Abstract
If having knowledge of the basic characteristics of the European Union leads to a greater European Identity is doubtful. The research does not show that the European identity increases when the knowledge level becomes higher. It only shows that the students with a higher knowledge level attach more value to the European Union because the European Union is seen as more useful and handier. The research findings suggest that knowledge of the basic characteristics of the European Union does not lead to a stronger feeling of European identity.
