Abstract

In response to land grabbing, overpopulation and riverbank erosion, displaced farmers in Bangladesh, have moved to coastal islands in search for newly accreted, unclaimed land. The Char Development and Settlement Project (CDSP) aims to improve the lives of these families by protecting them from current and possible future climate hazards, connecting them to the mainland by investing in infrastructure and by enabling the communities to adapt to the always changing circumstances. This thesis aims to evaluate the efforts of CDSP, establishing whether investing in the area would result in maladaptation – making the community or other communities less resistant to climate hazards.
