Abstract

This thesis focuses on location decision arguments from firms located in/near a modern Dutch football stadium in the Netherlands. Sixteen football stadiums have been built since 1994, most of them considered to be ‘multifunctional’: they allow for different activities aside from hosting football matches. Of these sixteen stadiums, those in Zwolle and Groningen were used as case studies. Through the use of interviews with firms located both in and directly near these two stadiums, it became clear that the firms hardly consider football related activities as a location decision factor. Instead, they decide on various other factors, which combined lead to the stadium (and its area) being a suitable location for these firms. Arguments include parking spaces, accessibility, available office space, among many others. Additionally, firms tend to move to locations that happen to be available at that moment, leading to moving in/next a stadium to being a coincidence.
