Abstract
The aim of my thesis is to examine the relation between norm behaviour, job search behaviour and characteristics of social assistance recipients in Groningen. There are three different types of long-term unemployment cultures in Groningen. These are: Egalitarianism, Individualism and Fatalism. The degree of norm behaviour of recipients is significantly higher for those who are female, low-educated, non-Dutch and young. The degree of job search behaviour of recipients is significantly higher for those who are male, high-educated, non-Dutch and young.
