Abstract
Nature-based educational experiences might improve nature conservation values and actions among the visitors. This research aims to examine whether this is the case by using a seal watching excursion, located in the Dutch Wadden Sea village Lauwersoog, as a case study. It explores to what extent nature-based educational experiences foster pro-conservation values and actions among tourists. A survey was used to measure nature conservation values and actions at the start of the excursion and at the end. By analysing the results with a Paired Sample T-Test it became clear that nature-based educational experiences do not foster pro-conservation values and do not foster pro-conservation actions in terms of money spend on nature conservation either. They do foster pro-conservation actions in terms of planned hours spend on nature conservation related activities. Follow up opportunities might help to extend the environmental activities from the excursion into other settings.
