Abstract

Using an experimental qualitative method, the thesis analyses the role of spatial planners in the production of 'landscapes of fear' in the US and possibilities for socially responsible planning in the context of a 'culture of fear'. The findings of this study call for a more active role of planners in society, politics, and the market and suggest planners to think different and define themselves as social and political activists as well as proactive market actors.
