Abstract

An analysis of road network vulnerability using historical maps in order to provide a frame of reference for future Dutch road network vulnerability. Historical road network datasets were created by superimposing lines on georeferenced historical reference maps and adding attributes to the lines such as expected road traverse speed. By analyzing the betweenness of roads within these networks, it was possible to approximate the expected amount of users of each road segment, providing a basis for future vulnerability analysis. The results show a distinct clustering of road users towards 2007 compared with 1848, creating a more vulnerable road network.
