Abstract
When a country's gross domestic product is increasingly dependent on the service sector, it is often assumed that the country experiences a shift toward a more developed, knowledge based type of economy. However, growth in the service sector could also be explained negatively: by the increase of marginal, necessity based service activities. In this thesis, the service sector growth is examined for Indonesia, by quantitative analysis of dimensions of economic development.
