Abstract
The current electricity grid in the Netherlands still relies heavily on conventional, unsustainable energy sources. A shift towards a more sustainable energy system, with a high penetration of renewable energy, is needed. This shift, often referred to as the energy transition, brings along many uncertainties. This thesis aims at offering insights in the uncertainties of the electricity grid in the Netherlands in 2035-2040. Scenario Planning is used as a tool to offer insights in these uncertainties by developing four different scenarios and comparing these scenarios. The structure of the scenarios are determined by the identified most promising aspects in the theoretical framework. Due to the different characteristics of the scenarios the identified aspects appear different in the scenarios. By comparing these scenarios a masterplan and contingency plans have been developed which offer insights in the uncertainties of the future electricity grid in the Netherlands.
