Abstract

j. This research studies the performance of the Dutch water assessment and the Californian safety element. Both planning instruments stimulate local governments to include non-structural natural hazard mitigation into land use planning. Although the overall performance is reasonable, natural hazard mitigation not yet forms a basic part of planning.
