Abstract

This thesis is a descriptive analysis about the spatial-economic impact of the Cheonggyecheon restoration project (Seoul, South Korea). In 2003 and a evevated expressway in the city of Seoul was torn down and replaced by the Cheonggyecheon stream. In this thesis, the main stakeholders involved in the project are analyzed. Besides that, the spatial-economic characteristics of the research area (Seoul CBD) are analyzed and compared with the characteristics of the area prior to the stream restoration. Finally the thesis tries to determine the impact of the project on the image of the local environment. The findings are compared with key theories related to urban regeneration, city marketing and the impact of urban green spaces.
