Abstract

The implementation of System of Rice Intensification (SRI) carries the potential to increase the community capacity of rural areas. This research aims to examine community capacity underlying the implementation of the SRI method in Tasikmalaya Regency and identify the factors that influence it. The conceptual model of community capacity is used as the analytical base. The information is synthesized mainly from in-depth interviews. The results show that the community already has natural, social and cultural capital that can be used to increase community capacity. The implementation of the SRI organic could increase human and economic capital of the farmers. I argue that cultural capital is also one of the important assets in the community besides the natural, social, economic and human capital. With the sphere of social relations which also supports the development of SRI organic, the farmers and the communities have more capabilities in the future.
