Abstract
This research studies ecovillages in the Netherlands situated in rural areas. In particular it focuses on the motivations and current experiences and practices of ecovillage inhabitants. The results show that the main aim for inhabitants to move to an ecovillage is to live in a close community. The inhabitants are very much aware that the creation of an ecovillage is a difficult process. However they are very committed to creating a community that encourages sustainability in multiple ways.
