Abstract

This research was done to analyse to which degree TOD is taking place or has taken place along the Valley Metro Rail system in Phoenix, Arizona. Based on a mix of quantitative and qualitative research methods it can be concluded that TOD does occur to a certain degree along the Valley Metro Rail and that it will likely take place along future segments of the light rail system. However, there seems to be a mismatch between the results from a series of semi-structured interviews and a series of GIS analyses. Many of the interviewed stakeholders stated that there have been many strong positive effects of the light rail on TOD, whereas the quantitative research mainly shows that these effects have not yet taken place.
