Abstract

In the Netherland many houses are owned by housing corporations. After a few decades these houses need to be renovated and sustainable renovation is being more implemented because of climatological and sustainability issues. In the neighbourhood of Lewenborg, Groningen, 387 houses were renovated sustainably in 2010. This thesis is trying to gain insight in such projects, especially the experience of the residents, with the help of a case study. The main research question was: ‘’To what extent does the participation of the residents influence the renovation process’’. After conducting the questionnaires and the analyses it was clear that involving the people in the renovation process results in a smoother process and less inconvenience during the renovation. It is important that people are being heard before and during the process, otherwise they are reluctant to everything they get offered, no matter how good this may be.
