Abstract
Traditional solutions for pluvial flooding, such as hard infrastructure, may not be adequate in the future. Alternative solutions, like sustainable urban drainage measures (SUDS), can reduce pluvial flooding while providing other benefits. The city of Zwolle is vulnerable to pluvial flooding due to climate change and urbanization. This research will identify barriers and opportunities for the implementation of SUDS in Zwolle. The central research question is: How does the implementation of sustainable urban drainage measures, to remedy pluvial flooding in the city of Zwolle, present barriers, and opportunities? This question will be answered by gathering data from in-depth, semi-structured interviews with municipality representatives and residents of areas that are vulnerable to pluvial flooding. Perceived barriers include lack of knowledge, lack of willingness, and unclear roles and responsibilities for climate adaptation within the municipality. Opportunities for implementation will be suggested based on the research analysis.
