Abstract

Urban greenspaces play a crucial role in improving the quality of life in the neighbourhoods by fostering social cohesion among the residents. This study explores how greenspace composition influences social cohesion in Rollbergsiedlung, Berlin. Studying greenspace composition, this study had to evaluate the diversity of amenities such as recreational facilities (playgrounds, sports fields) and outdoor furniture (tables, benches, gazebos) within neighbourhood greenspaces. A mixed-method approach combined qualitative data from observations and quantitative data from surveying. Observations revealed increased social interactions with more amenities. Meanwhile, the survey results yielded a moderate relationship between the perceived quality of greenspace composition and social cohesion. The main conclusion of this paper is diverse greenspace types with various amenities support social cohesion.
