Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore ways of promoting climate-resilient travel behaviour in Noardeast-Fryslân. For this, it was required to determine the current travel behaviour, identifying barriers, examining effective strategies and collaborative approaches. Through a combination of a quantitative survey and qualitative interviews, data was collected to uncover insights into the perceptions of the residents, their behaviour and the effectiveness of existing initiatives. The findings indicated a cognitive awareness of climate change among residents but limited behavioural change. Primarily due to barriers such as high costs of alternatives and poor connections in public transport. Effective strategies identified include engaging the community, continuous evaluation and affordability. Collaborations between stakeholders, including the local government, residents and transport companies are crucial for achieving climate resilience. The study concludes that by raising awareness, offering incentives, good collaboration and improving the infrastructure, Noardeast-Fryslân can promote climate-resilient travel behaviour effectively. Future research could evaluate the long-term impacts of implemented strategies on travel behaviour through comparative studies.
