Abstract

The need to redevelop the current energy landscape becomes more apparent almost every day. To achieve energy neutrality of the Netherlands in 2050 it's necessary to redevelop urban areas so that renewable energy is not only produced but also utilized in neighbourhoods. This research tries to come up with recommendations that can aid in stimulating energy efficient housing renovation on a neighbourhood level. Interviews with local energy initiatives and actors active within sustainable neighbourhood redevelopment have been conducted. From the interviews important lessons have been drawn. For instance, it became clear that a long-term vision and hence opportunity for actors to create innovations should be created. Consensus creation is helpful for starting local organizational structures which can act as entity to begin local energy initiatives. Stimulation of sustainable neighbhourhood redevelopment can be done in various ways, by changing roles of actors, changing regulations or different approaches to sustainable neighbourhood redevelopment.
