Abstract

The way people perceive the green space in their neighborhood is important in the perspective of health outcomes: there is a positive relationship between the perception of green space and health. A combination of quantitative and qualitative research in two neighborhoods in Groningen supports this statement. Aspects that are involved in this relationship between the perception of urban green spaces and health are access, personal and social value, quality of green space and reason of use. Of these aspects the personal value and the quality of the green are the most important. Although these aspects are more important than others, planners should focus on all the aspects in designing urban green space. The design of urban green spaces should focus on the needs of the users.
