Abstract

Internet-mediated research has shown that ex-prisoners face multiple challenges in their home-making process after institutionalisation. Social barriers like shame, judgement and being a step behind society influence ex-prisoners home-making activities in a negative way. The feeling of being isolated is relatable for many ex-prisoners. Financial and political barriers are often in the form of not being able to open a bank account of request payments, the result is an experienced high level of stress which can leads to restlessness. An opportunity in the home making process of ex-prisoners is the chance to start over in a different environment.
