In 2013 4,5 million students were enrolled outside their home country and this number is steadily growing by 6% annually. This research paper explores and describes the push and pull factors of South and Southeast Asian students who have migrated to Manipal University, India, for study purposes. Eight South and Southeast Asian students have been interviewed at Manipal university. The main push factor for students who leave their home country are the educational opportunities. As why the students chose Manipal University, three pull factors appeared to be of great importance. First, the quality of the education at Manipal University. The other pull factors appeared to be the low tuition fees and living expenses and the personal recommendations the students received by their friends, family and doctors they know. The pull factors appeared to be of more influence than the push factors. date: 2016 type: Thesis type: NonPeerReviewed format: text language: nl identifier: https://frw.studenttheses.ub.rug.nl/1092/1/Bachelorscriptie_George_FINAL__1.pdf identifier: Sevenhuijsen, G (2016) Student migration: the push and pull factors of South and Southeast Asian students migrating to Manipal University, India.
