%D 2019 %X There has been a rise in the application of shared space in the Netherlands. This resulted in an overall decrease in the number of accidents, but it paradoxically also received criticism for an increasing feeling of unsafety of elderly pedestrians. This research explored the feelings of safety of older adults in these shared space situations, as there has only been little academic research into the effect of shared space on pedestrians, especially the vulnerable groups in society. The aim of the research was to figure out what the experiences of elderly people are in regard to shared spaces. This research added to the knowledge on the perceptions of elderly people on shared spaces. Future recommendations regarding the implementation of shared spaces are that vulnerable groups should be consulted to make sure shared spaces remain accessible to everyone. %L theses_frw1105 %T Shared Space and the Perceived Safety of Older Adults %A N.
