%T Gender, Migration and Mental Health: Stress and coping strategies of first-generation female Polish migrants in The Netherlands

%X As an increasing amount of Polish women arrive to the Netherlands annually, gender related mental health among Polish migrants is still a subject not readily explored in a Dutch context.    Women are found to have different mental health experiences than men. Lazarus’s Transactional Model of Stress and Coping is used to formulate a framework for the research design.    This qualitative study explores the migratory stressors that Polish migrants face and their assessment of the stress, and their personal coping mechanisms of their stress. 12 in-depth interviews and photo elicitation were conducted to obtain experiences of stress and coping strategies related to migration to the Netherlands.     Participants have experienced at least one or more of the following initial universal migratory stressors: stress with finding a job and housing, and stress due to lack of social support. Coping strategies were unique to the participant, but accessing social supports deemed most universal.
