As Karnataka, India, knows good practices regarding empowering methods the situation of urban and rural women from this state has been explored. Women’s political participation has been conceptualized using theories of Milbrath & Goel (1982), Bryson (2007) and Joshi (2003) to be able to capture the width and range of participation. The educational theory of Situated Learning (Lave & Wenger, 1991) is introduced to approach different empowering methods as participation, and vice versa. An ethnographic approach is used to explore women’s political participation in Karnataka. The results show that women’s political participation comprises a wide range of public and private activities. In the process towards women’s participation foremost the social context, the family and community actors seem to be important. Moreover, the concept of women’s places and spaces was recognized. date: 2013 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: RS tutors_name: Bailey, Dr. A. keywords_local: The Public-Private Divide keywords_local: Political places and spaces keywords_local: Women’s Political Participation keywords_local: Lower-Educated women keywords_local: Urban and Rural Karnataka keywords_local: Situated Learning language_iso: en titleorder: Women, Political Places and Participation - An educational perspective at the political participation of lower-educated Muslim and Hindu women in Urban and Rural Karnataka, India dbi: 52551a6648541 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ma/RS/2013/jmElgershuizen/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132454-52551a6648541.xml date_issued: 2013-01-01 citation: Elgershuizen, J.M.
