In this research, an indicator has been developed that captures the extent of discontent perceived among individuals in Europe. This indicator is based on values and attitudes expressed in the European Social Survey 2018. Trust in national and European institutions appear to be a vital driver behind this indicator. Using regression analysis, it becomes clear how poorer individuals, in poorer regions, with a poorer development over the past 10 years, are more discontent compared to wealthier individuals and places. date: 2019 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: EG tutors_name: Ballas, D. keywords_local: Geography of discontent, inequality, populism, economic decl language_iso: en titleorder: New Geography of Discontent: Building and explaining an Indicator that captures the extent of perceived Discontent among Europeans dbi: 5d8e1cdbd1259 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ma/EG/2019/sringnalda/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132455-5d8e1cdbd1259.xml date_issued: 2019-01-01 description_company: Rijksuniversiteit Groningen citation: Ringnalda, S.
