Most studies in the field of European identity have focused on characteristics such as age, gender and occupational position (Pichler, 2008). Whilst some research has been carried out on the European Capitals of Culture, there is a relative paucity of studies investigating the impact of these European mega-events on the European identity. This paper analyses the impact of hosting the European Capital of Culture on the sense of European citizenship among the residents in the case of Leeuwarden. The central research question in this research is as follows: Does a European mega-event as the Capital of Culture in Leeuwarden influence the sense of European citizenship among the citizens in comparison to the citizens of Groningen? date: 2018 date_type: published thesis_type: bachelor degree_programme: SGP tutors_name: Ballas, D. keywords_local: European Capital of Culture keywords_local: European identity keywords_local: sense of European citizenship keywords_local: Mega-events language_iso: en titleorder: Influence of LF18 on the sense of European citizenship dbi: 5bc88fc4ca690 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ba/SGP/2018/lvanwarmerdam/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132455-5bc88fc4ca690.xml date_issued: 2018-01-01 citation: Warmerdam, L. van (2018) The influence of LF18 on the sense of European citizenship.
