N2  - Spatial segregation of ethnic minority groups is changing the demography within cities. Society have segregated inhabitants for thousands of years, usually on socio-economic, religious or ethnic grounds. The spatial segregation of ethnic minority groups has been linked to negative effects on individuals and neighbourhoods and is a dominant issue in popular and political discourse. The influence of socio-economic status on the residential mobility behaviour of ethnic minority groups is especially interesting, due to its multifaceted nature. In this thesis, the assimilation theory and the residential mobility behaviour of different ethnic groups, based on their socio-economic status, will be observed in order to identify whether the changing patterns of ethnic colocation fit with the predictions of assimilation theory.
