N2  - Under-five mortality is a lingering problem in Nigeria. The rate of under-five mortality in Nigeria is 124.0 deaths per 1,000 live births. This research examined the effects of child related demographic factors, maternal factors, and access/health related factors on the risk of dying before age five in Nigeria. The Mosley and Chen analytical framework for the study of child survival in developing countries (1984) was applied in this research. The Kaplan Meier, micro life table, and the hazard proportional model were employed in this study. The mean age at death among the under-five children is 5.93 months. The hazard rate of under-five mortality is highest at age 0 month. Majority of under-five deaths in Nigeria occur before the first birthday. Giving adequate care to the child from the first month of birth can drastically reduce the level of under-five mortality in Nigeria.
