In order to find new ways to tackle this problem, this study analyses the differences in cardiovascular disease prevalence between European countries participating in the SHARE project. The influence of the age and sex composition on the cardiovascular diseases rate is shown. A model is proposed that takes macro risk factors into account. A countries GDP is found to be a significant predictor for the cardiovascular diseases (CVD) rates. Other macro risk factors are shown to be related to the CVD rates as well, including government expenditure on health, as well as the health personnel employed in hospitals. In order to improve cardiovascular disease prevention programs, more attention must be paid to the influence of the macro-economic factors and healthcare quality and access in general. date: 2016 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: POPST tutors_name: Kibele, E.U.B. tutors_name: Janssen, F. keywords_local: Europe keywords_local: risk factors keywords_local: Cardiovascular diseases keywords_local: GDP keywords_local: population composition language_iso: en titleorder: Differences in Prevalence of Cardiovascular Diseases in Europe dbi: 56aa156dcf103 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ma/PopSt/2016/kbeenes/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132454-56aa156dcf103.xml date_issued: 2016-01-01 citation: Beenes, K.
