Y1 - 2011/// TI - Unmet Need for Family Planning among couples in Kenya AV - public N2 - Studies on unmet need have been women-based disregarding men?s views yet consensus steers best reproductive decisions. This study examine factors for couple unmet need for FP using couple based approach to unearth opportunities for practical and policy approaches to accelerate uptake of contraceptives. It adopts the theory of planned behaviour, the behaviour-specific contexts. The descriptive and analytical quantitative study used couple data from Kenya DHS-2009, and logit models as analysis techniques. Couple unmet need for FP inversely relates to reproductive lifespan; women empowerment, education, exposure to information, and decision-making significantly predicts couple unmet need. Employed women and men?s positive attitude on FP comes with 1.5 and 2.5 lower odds of couple unmet need respectively. Couple unmet need is 2 times high with husband dominance in decision-making. Thus, interventions and policies on unmet need for FP should target couples as a unit with regard to key predictors highlighted in this study.
