However, the uniqueness of the region is shaped by the interplay between natural and cultural factors. This research aims to uncover how natural and cultural heritage are valued in the region. The main research question is ‘how are natural and cultural heritage valued in the Wadden Sea region?’ Another key question is what the potential is for integrating cultural heritage into the UNESCO World Heritage status of the region. The analysis of survey results showed natural heritage is valued higher than cultural heritage. However, This result does not indicate the natural heritage status is sufficient, since the region has the features needed to integrate cultural heritage into the UNESCO World Heritage status. This research recommends a re-evaluation of the criteria which made the Wadden Sea region earn its UNESCO World Heritage status. date: 2017 date_type: published thesis_type: bachelor degree_programme: SGP tutors_name: Boumans, B.M. tutors_name: Busscher, N.A. keywords_local: cultural heritage keywords_local: natural heritage keywords_local: Wadden Sea keywords_local: heritage keywords_local: UNESCO World Heritage language_iso: en titleorder: Dutch Heritage: natural and cultural heritage in the Wadden Sea region dbi: 59772a07131a0 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ba/SGP/2017/lidiepeveen/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132455-59772a07131a0.xml date_issued: 2017-01-01 citation: Diepeveen, L.I.
