description: The aim of this study is to gain insight in the biological and contextual maternal factors that influence breast milk transfer from mother to baby, using a database that combines  data from 16 milk intake studies from across 12 countries. First, it is assessed whether the body composition of the mother affects her breast milk output. Secondly, the socioeconomic status (SES) of the mother is included to test whether a difference in breast milk output between mothers from high and low SES can be found. Thirdly, the association between body composition and breast milk transfer is studied on the macro level by including a country’s  stage in the nutrition transition in the analysis.
