One of the causes of death that has resisted improvements in health care is suicide, especially in East Asia. Countries like Japan and South Korea have very high suicide rates and for both countries, the number of suicides is an urgent public health concern. At the same time, countries in East and Southeast Asia have experienced rapid economic and societal changes, which in combination with Durkheim?s theses on suicide, made the region an interesting subject for this thesis. Therefore, with the help of a literature review, a descriptive data analysis, and multiple linear regression analyses this thesis has formulated an answer to the following research question: How can differences in the epidemiology of suicide between old and new tiger economies be explained?
