To feel comfortable in such a situation, home-making practices are employed. This research examines home-making practices of international students in Berlin. These were captured by a photo-elicitation and in-depth interview method. They show that a sense of home is evoked by both social and territorial behaviour. This behaviour is especially focused on maintaining bonds with the previous environment and/or establishing bonds with the new environment. Further, the research explores how a temporary stay influences the engagement in the home-making process, and how home matters when temporary living abroad. As such, it provides insight into how attachment to place evolves through temporary living abroad. date: 2011 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: RS tutors_name: Hoven, dr.
