Activities result in increasing transportation flows into centres. The city as a 'place to be' demands for a liveable and attractive centre in which these transportation flows are undesired. Here, a discrepancy arises. Furthermore, the European Commission mandates cities to have a zero-emission zone in city centres by 2030. In order to reach this objective, public authorities have to cooperate with private parties in the logistic sector. This research consists of a multiple case-study into sustainable city logistic initiatives in order to determine the prerequisites for and the role of the government in public-private cooperation within the transition towards sustainable city logistics.
