description: This research is concerned with the implementation of socio economic diversity into neighbourhoods which in theory would result into the creation of an improved social cohesion within in the neighbourhood. In cases where there already is social cohesion, this would mean breaking up the social cohesion in order to create a new cohesive neighbourhood. However, this relationship between socio economic diversity and social cohesion is not straightforward at all. The research then proposes a model which explains how the social distance between groups can prevent a neighbourhood from building social cohesion. To validate these characteristics, this research conducted ten interviews with inhabitants living in Vinkhuizen, a neighbourhood in Groningen which underwent spatial renovation between 2000 and 2007 where the concept of social mixing was applied.
