The principles of children’s wellbeing in the city are secured by different policy documents, conventions and resolutions adopted worldwide. However, more and more children nowadays are being chauffeured to the schools, and that results in growing children’s obesity rates and underdevelopment of social and physical skills. A few cities make a real effort to improve this situation and change travel behavior of the young residents. In order to understand more deeply the issue of promoting children’s independent mobility, this research was initiated with the aim to investigate the European child-oriented directives and guidelines and their implementation in different countries and cities. The case studies of four European cities were examined, and a set of recommendations for facilitating relevant child-oriented projects was worked out. date: 2015 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: EIP tutors_name: Niekerk, F. keywords_local: top-down/ bottom-up implementation process keywords_local: child-oriented policies keywords_local: children's independent mobility keywords_local: institutional capacities keywords_local: barriers keywords_local: networks language_iso: en titleorder: Children’s Independent Mobility in the European Union: How Do Cities Promote and Implement Child-Oriented Policies dbi: 55e6ee3959cf9 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ma/EIP/2015/ypoletaeva/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132454-55e6ee3959cf9.xml date_issued: 2015-01-01 citation: Poletaeva Yulia (2015) Children’s Independent Mobility in the European Union: How Do Cities Promote and Implement Child-Oriented Policies.
