New Zealand was selected for a case study because it is very unique compared to other countries in the world. The preservation of the natural character of the coastal environment is a matter of national importance under the Resource Management Act and this is why New Zealand has the NZ Coastal Policy Statement. The concept of sustainability is the central theme of the RMA that was introduced in 1991. The central question in the case study is, what kind of lessons can be drawn from the New Zealand case study for the international perspective and what kind of circumstances are necessary that this particular measure works? In the end a non-structural mitigation measure classification framework will be developed to compare the case study with the international prospective. date: 2010 type: Thesis type: NonPeerReviewed format: text language: en identifier: https://frw.studenttheses.ub.rug.nl/2607/1/Master_thesis_Bjoern_Hendel_fi_1.pdf identifier: Hendel, B.
