%X This thesis studies reactions in urban water management to climate change and its’ impacts. The research focused on barriers and success factors to the emergence and realization of climate relevant urban planning policies in cities. Case studies were employed to validate and prioritize  the barriers and success factors identified from policies and scientific publications. Individual strategies and success factors, as well as common, more general applicable strategies could be extracted from the case studies. Hopefully this study will prove helpful in the practical  application of strategies to overcome the barriers to climate proofing urban planning.
